 "If I ever go looking for my heart's desire again, I won't look any further than my own backyard." Well said Dorothy. Although I am not quite ready to cut out all travel and adventure, our own backyard sure has lots of treasures yet to discover. You can be sure that many Americans wished they had a back yard like ours to play in.
Our areas beaches and recreational opportunities in Santa Rosa County Florida are second to none. Navarre Beach is as clean and white as any in Florida (and less crowded). Milton's Blackwater river, the cold water creek, Escambia / Yellow rivers and the area bays, give fishermen a reason to keep their tackle box up to date and swimmers making sure they have trunks that fit.
And the food! I have traveled the world over and I would rather eat in Santa Rosa County than any of those highly touted eatery places that offer funny sounding entrees and vintage bottles of wine that cost more than my truck. If you haven't biked down the Heritage bike trail that would be a good place to start. Its free all day long and you can take all day long to do it. It's good for you and you will enjoy it. Don't have a bike? Walk, that's fun too. If you would rather spend a little cash because you need a bike, Truly Spokin' is right there at the beginning of the trail. Carpenters Park
Take a small kid fishing at carpenters park with a fishing pole. I am fudging a little on this one you do have to have a fishing pole and worms. I have those things already though, so I am sticking this on the free list.
Veterans Park and Riverwalk
Walk through veterans park and pay tribute to our military men and women who have left us with a better world. Then, go have a sack lunch down by the river it is very peaceful and scenic.
The Graveyard
Walk around the graveyard on Berryhill Road, see how many of your ancestors are resting there. It is ver peaceful there and a lot of history is recorded in that old cemetery. It's very popular you know. People are just dying to get in . Sorry ...my Dad's old joke, I couldn't resist.
